Siem Reap Family Hotel: Sabara Angkor Resort & Spa

Siem Reap Family Hotel: Sabara Angkor Resort & Spa

Sabara Angkor Resort & Spa was probably our favourite hotel in Cambodia. Located a bit far from Siem Reap center, it is an oasis of calm and tranquility. Ever since you step into the lobby, you feel transposed into a different world.

The hotel is quite new, opened in 2017; it is owned and run by locals, involved in the local community, not by a foreign hospitality company, which we highly appreciated.

The resort has a U-shaped building, with the swimming pool in the center, well isolated from the outside areas and with enough privacy. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with all the required amenities; most rooms are designated for double occupancy, but they feature also larges ones, for families. Each room has windows facing the pool-garden and a small terrace or balcony. For Eric, the highlight of our room was the outdoor tub, where he spent more than half an hour playing with bath foam.

Considering the Cambodian heat, a swimming pool is a must for a relaxing stay in Siem Reap. Sabara Angkor features a salt water pool, perfect if you travel with kids; I am always concerned about all the chemicals used to clean the fresh-water ones. Eric was delighted about the kids pool, where he could enter just by himself to play. A jacuzzi is also available, perfect to ease the muscles after visiting temples for a whole day. The pool area is surrounded by lush greenery, making you forget you are actually very close to a bustling city. Not to mention the pool-bar, with amazing cocktails or ice-cold drinks that you can serve directly from the water!

Even though Sabara Angkor is located a bit outside the city, the distance is really not a problem. After all, it is much better to stay away from all the noise and crowds. It only takes a 10 minutes tuk-tuk ride, which is quite cheap too. Moreover, the ride to the city is complimentary offered by Sabara. To return to the hotel, you’ll get a small mobile phone from the front desk. You just need to call them and let them know your location. You’ll get your ride back at hotel’s flat rate, which is just perfect… no more hustling for the price or difficulty in explaining where you need to go to a non-english speaking driver. I have to admit I wasn’t always able to determine my location, but there were no issues in finding a waiter or shopkeeper to help.

The restaurant at Sabara Angkor serves a selection of both local and international food. We were delighted to have dinner in the garden. It was the first time we tried khmer dishes and we were impressed by the taste and also the modern presentation. If you are too tired, room service is available too. Twice a week, there is a traditional dance show organised during dinner time. It was interesting to see the performance and Eric was fascinated by the music. Actually, I was amazed to see how much patience he showed and how mesmerised he was during the entire show.

For breakfast we’re not used (yet) to have asian food, but it wasn’t necessary at Sabara. A selection of pastry is available, together with fruits, cereals and eggs. A great surprise for us was the coffee. At Sabara Angkor Resort you won’t get the cheap washy tasteless coffee that you get in many hotels in Asia, but you have the option to select your desired beverage, freshly made for you. For coffee lovers like us, it’s awesome to have an espresso or cappuccino included in the breakfast.

We also arranged our visit to Angkor temples through Sabara Angkor. They can suggest you the most popular itineraries and have quite decent prices, for both tuk-tuk or car tours. Our driver was handing us ice-cold water after each temple visit, which was very welcoming.

You can book here you stay at Sabara Angkor Resort & Spa or check other accommodation options in Siem Reap.

Ubud is not just about temples, yoga and rice fiel Ubud is not just about temples, yoga and rice fields… you can have cool adventures here too! Eric wanted an ATV tour while we were in Bali, so I checked @getyourguide app and booked an experience with great reviews. It was awesome!

We had a short briefing, got safety equipment and boots and we went on a 90 minutes ATV adventure. We passed through traditional villages and lush rice fields, jungle and bamboo forrest, scenic paths or very bumpy ones. There was water and mud, laughs and adrenaline, but on the same time it was safe even with the kid with us.

Highly recommending the experience! You can find it as ➡️ Ubud: ATV Quad Biking Adventure Guided Tour on Get Your Guide App.
