Amwaj Rotana, hotel recommendation in Dubai JBR

Not sure if we could live in Dubai, but every time we return, it feels like a second home to us. We always try to explore new places, but we formed some habits there. One of the constant things for us in Dubai is the area where we stay. Even since the first time we’ve been here, 4 years ago, we always looked for a place in Jumeriah Beach Residence or in the nearby Dubai Marina. These are such convenient locations and offer everything we need, that we were never motivated to try a different neighbourhood. Plenty of restaurants and stores, playgrounds for Eric, Jumeirah Beach and promenade areas, plus close proximity to Dubai public transportation make JBR and Dubai Marina awesome choices when you visit Dubai.

We often choose an apartment, as it is easier to organise when you travel with a young kid. But, for our latest trip to Dubai this April, we needed some pampering after backpacking South-East Asia for 4 months. So we chose to spend a few nights at Amwaj Rotana, which perfectly fits all our criteria.

Amwaj Rotana is very conveniently located if you plan to explore Dubai. JBR 2 tram station is just around the corner and DMCC metro station is about 10 minutes away. So you can easily reach any major Dubai attraction, as public transportation is very well organised around here.

We had a spacious room, enough for Eric to be able to play, and very comfortable; actually, Amwaj Rotana has the largest rooms available in the whole JBR. It has great view towards the new Bluewaters Island and Eric was fascinated to observe the huge Ain Dubai, the world’s largest observation wheel. A big plus for us was the balcony facing the sea, where we could relax in the evening, after the little one was asleep.

Family-friendly hotel, Amwaj Rotana has a very nice play room for kids aged 4 to 12 years old. We just had a look around Flipper’s Kids Club, as Eric is younger than the minimum age required. The play area was very nice maintained and included different toys and books. The ladies taking care of the kids were very patiently supervising their activities, so you can enjoy your time here, knowing your little ones are well cared for.

A huge advantage at Amwaj Rotana is the direct access to Jumeirah Beach. The golden sand is just a few meters away from the hotel. The Persian Gulf waters are perfect for a quick swim, very welcome of the heat in Dubai. Or you can choose to spend your time at the pool, on the terrace facing the sea. Other attractions at Amwaj Rotana include a gym and a spa, with jacuzzi and sauna. Unfortunately, traveling with a kid, we could not include these in our schedule.

The hotel features a temperature-controlled kids’ pool, with plenty of shade to protect the little ones from the scorching sun. We could relax on the lounges right next to the pool, supervising Eric playing with water, one of his favourite activities. In front of the hotel, right on the beach, there is a nice playground and, just a few minutes away, the water attractions at Splashpad. Amwaj Rotana is also very close to Dubai Marina, which features awesome play areas. These are mostly built from wood and located beneath the bridges, in a cool shaded place.

We loved the breakfast at Amwaj Rotana. Even if we were a bit tired of hotel breakfasts, after traveling for a few months, it was just impossible not to enjoy the food and the atmosphere here. With both indoor and outdoor seating, Horizon Restaurant offers a large variety of food, classic international breakfast options, but also Arabic, Indian and so on. I particularly liked it includes healthy food options, plenty of fruits and awesome coffee.

For lunch and dinner, the hotel has several restaurants, international or focused on a specific cuisine (Italian, American/Japanese, British/American). You can find lots of eating options nearby, on the famous leisure area The Walk. This is a great area to stroll in the evening or to go shopping.
